Ian Ziobrowski custom Green Lantern Dunny

Here's where I'd normally go on and on about how amazing Ian Ziobrowski's customs are. Do you really need me to tell you that now? Probably not.

If this is the first time you're reading my blog, Ian is an artist from Long Island, NY. He wields his paint brush like a samurai wields a katana. He is booked up with commissions and never gets a break because he is so good. Observe:
Please bear in mind that this Green Lantern custom is three inches tall. See what I'm sayin'? Ian will have a fully loaded website soon. Till then, friend him on Facebook here.

Proof of Faith, a book by Bryan A. Collins

Bryan A. Collins, artist extrordinaire, is releasing his first book, entitled "Proof of Faith". You can purchase his book at either Etsy or Bigcartel
When you purchase, please specify if you would like your copy signed or not.
I'm excited for Bryan's book for many reasons. One small reason is that he talks about me and Tenacious Toys in there somewhere! I am so honored to be a part of Bryan's journey. Bryan and I have executed several successful projects together in the art toy world, with another one in the works right now. Bryan's banging out some custom toys, to be sold exclusively at Tenacious Toys.

The bigger reason I'm excited, though, is to get a better glimpse into what makes Bryan tick. An interesting guy, his work has depth and endless possibilities. It's more ephemeral than the character-based illustation which is so common these days. I get the feeling Bryan has purpose and real "meat" behind his artwork and I hope this book shows us whence that inspiration flows.

130 paintings, illustrations, and custom figures to accompany the candid story of my failures and successes on the road to becoming a full-time artist.

In this book I share some personal struggles and secrets. I discuss what happened to me during the times I had no creative outlet, and why I now have no choice but to make art. You will read about the first time I fell in love with art and the first time I decided I hated it. You will also hear about why I'd rather be poor and happy than rich and unhappy, and what that sentiment really means.

Enjoy the book and please post your comments and reviews when you get your copy.

God bless,
Bryan A. Collins

Little Brass Bird: Handmade Plushies and TV Show- Review and Giveaway

LITTLE BRASS BIRD™ is a Chicago based animated show which was inspired by an original plush toy line created in 2008 by Robin Poppert. The toy line was showcased at several Chicago events including Depart-Ment and Pitchfork Music Festival. However, over time, the stories crafted for these plush characters became more elaborate and eventually grew much larger than their 2 inch name tags. With years of film experience and a hefty list of artistic acquaintances; creating a show for these designs seemed like an opportunity too obvious to pass up.

In November of 2009, the plush series aired it’s first two teaser episodes. They quickly gained in popularity within the community and within two months the show was funded with enough money to officially launch the series in time for the new year! Best of all, the series is open to creative outsiders, keeping the episodes organic and diverse with each episode including music from local bands & artwork from amazing Chicago artists.  LITTLE BRASS BIRD™ is working to be the center of a web of talents, encouraging collaboration and friendship between creative minds!

Little Brass Bird sent us a sweet promo package with some of their plushies, a DVD and some buttons (pictured above). The DVD features 2 pilot episodes, 2 music videos and a handful of "gag" shorts. There are also 4 buttons, the "Flying Windmill" mini plush and the full-size 11-inch-tall "Half Cat" plush.  Half Cat is the official mascot of Little Brass Bird- yes, that's right, the back half of the cat is their mascot!

I gotta say, these are some really interesting plushies! If you know Tenacious Toys, you know that we love to support artists who craft their own weird plushies. We've have Steff Bomb's crazy food plushies in stock for quite some time, and we've also been working with Thunderpanda, selling their plushes from Indonesia. These Little Brass Bird plushies fit right in- the workmanship is tight but the pieces have just enough of that esoteric feel left that they are just a pleasure to hold and look at. (By esoteric I mean that those of us who are into crazy plushes will appreciate the level of finish on these pieces- this ain't no factory-made Beanie Baby, that's for sure.)

I really dig this company. It seems that they use the music of many different local artists in their episodes, and they are just off-kilter enough to keep me wondering what they'll do next.

I am keeping the Flying Windmill mini plush myself (sorry, too f*n cool. Buy your own for $10 here). We are giving away the rest of the items pictured above as a Little Brass Bird Price Pack! One lucky winner will get all of it! No restrictions on geographical location. All ya gotta do is go to the Little Brass Bird shop here and check out all their plushes.
Then, leave a comment below this post on our blog telling us which of the plush characters is your favorite: Barnaby, Pikka, Pika, Tug Boat, Tux-Ton, Basset Hound Bass, Flying Windmill, Half Cat or Other Half!
(TO ENTER, please leave your comment on this blog post with your full name and your favorite LBB character, and email us after with the same info so we have your contact info. If you win, we can't get in touch with you unless we have your email.)

Please, spread the word around amongst your friends! We'll let this contest run all week and we'll pick a winner randomly on Saturday April 30th. In the mean time, go "Like" LBB on Facebook! You can also visit the Little Brass Bird website here to watch episodes of their show, buy their plushes and learn more about them.

NEMO Custom Easter Haremongous at Toy Street

One last blog post as I literally run out the door to Toy Street:
NEMO's rolling up, in true NEMO style, with something totally unexpected and previously unannounced: a custom Easter Haremongous! In case you didn't know, this Haremongous sculpt is NEMO's own... he has a few of them on hand and I've been excited to see him customize his own creation! (Any of you customizers out there want to get busy on a Haremongous? Let me know, I'll see if I can convince him to let one go!)

This custom Easter Haremongous will be for sale at our Toy Street table. Roll up and check out the intense rusty weathering in person!

B.A.L.D. EB2 & Renegade Rabbit custom

Behold the EB2 and Renegade Rabbit custom set by Bryan Lopez aka B.A.L.D.
In the year 2099 all Holidays are outlawed by the RHSD (Religious Hate Speech Department) as ordered by the OWG (One World Government). All who dare to celebrate such things as Easter, Christmas etc. face death or life imprisonment, a few still rebel and follow the traditions of their forefathers.

In this time the great great grandson of The Easter Bunny is one of the leading rebels in the fight against The Government. He goes by the name: Renegade Rabbit and pilots the EB2 mecha-suit.

He wages war on all who would oppress the innocent and continues to deliver Easter eggs no matter the cost

More pics here. For sale 4/19/2011 @10am PST at the CTU Store here.

Scott Tolleson Uncle Argh Mini Qee

Scott Tolleson's Uncle Argh 5-inch Mini Qee is available for preorder now here. Slated to arrive in June, this production version of Tolleson's well-received "Cousin Argh" custom is priced at $28. 3A Large Martin Auspublic

WWRP Large Martin figures by ThreeA are finally in stock! The Auspublic Region Def figure, pictured above, had significantly more detailing on the final product than we originally knew about, so I popped one open and brought it up to my roof for a photo shoot. You can buy your own 9-inch Auspublic figure here (as well as see more images from my rooftop). The rest of our 3A pieces can be purchased here.

FULL REVEAL: Nuggy Growstation by Ian Ziobrowski

Nuggy Growstation epic custom by Ian Ziobrowski
The day is finally here: Ian Ziobrowski is finally ready to reveal his most ambitious custom project ever: the Nuggy Growstation! Based on a 10-inch MadL, plus six 3-inch Dunnys, this commission took Ian several months to complete. (Yes, sorry, it's already been bought and paid for, and Ian is currently working on the next epic commission, which is EVEN BIGGER!)
The Nuggy Growstation is NUGGS' treetop lab where the product is created for the market. This lab is the first step in a process which reels in an ever-widening group of characters: Crook ED the cop, THUGZ the distributor, the DEA and their K9 partners, and the end customer with the tie-dyed shirt! There's even a Yeti, who lives in the tree on the mountaintop. Is the Yeti protecting NUGGS' operation, or is he in collusion with the DEA? You never know who to trust in this game.... here's the official word from the NUGGYMaster himself:

Allow me to introduce you to NUGGLIFE! The way of the hustling American. Where growing, cultivating, packaging and pushin has become a part of our society.

Amongst this underground lifestyle mad characters are lookin to get theirs. Now I know you're all thinkin the ghetto here, and damn straight, lotsa trees make their way through the hood. That's where my boy, THUGZ, is holding it down. Crook ED the cop also takes and makes his green off these streets. While NUGGS is growin the crops on the mountain tops. This is where things can get stickey.  Operations must be well maintained to keep under the radar of the ever-watchful eye of the DEA.

Come along as we prepare to take you on This High Stakes Adventure Where A Friend with NUGGS, is a Friend for THUGZ....

A few more close-ups below, but you can see 60+ images on Ian's Flickr here. Keep in mind as you look at these images that every tiny piece has been crafted by hand, and painted with the utmost detail in acrylics, by Ian Ziobrowski. Welcome to NUGGLIFE
Look for a collaborative NUGGY project later on in 2011 (a Tenacious Exclusive limited series!!!).

Tenacious Toys at Toy Street April 22nd in NYC

OsirisOrion custom mini figures make their debut at Toy Street
Next week on Friday April 22nd, we will be exhibiting at a toy-centric NYC event called Toy Street. Toy Street is put on by the Cookies N Cream crew at 268 Mulberry Street in NYC. This will be a one-day event running from noon to 8pm. Admission is FREE so definitely plan on coming through. We've put together a few neat projects which we'll be kicking off at our Toy Street booth which we are sharing with Lou Pimentel, a talented local artist and friend of ours.

The first major project we'll be unveiling is a collab with OsirisOrion which we've had in the works for a while: I sent Osiris four dozen of Buff Monster's mini Ice Cream figures. This awesome series of customs will feature the amazing and beautiful paint which we've come to expect from Osiris. These figures have 4 basic shapes, and each shape has it's own Orisis-style colorway. From left to right (above) are: Sewer Sludge, Oil Slick, Molten Lava, Rainbow Cookie. Each custom will be bagged and tagged and will sell for $25. Osiris will be on hand to meet, greet and sign. We ran these by Buff Monster and although this project is in no way associated with him, he saw the images and gave his stamp of approval.
Tenacious Exclusive Pearl White Skekiltor
The next collaboration we will have available at Toy Street is the above Pearl White Skekiltor 4.5-inch resin figure by Halfbad Toyz. The Tenacious Exclusive Pearl White Skekiltors were made in a limited run of 20 pieces, and the price is $18 each. Halfbad Toyz will have their own table at Toy Street where you'll be able to pick up a lot more of their toys and merch.
Scott Tolleson's Otis and Otto set
We've had a request from OG from the Big Kev's Geek Stuff show to stock the Scott Tolleson 2-figure set called Otis and Otto, so we will be bringing a few of these to Toy Street in the Blue/Red colorway (pictured above) as well as the Orange/Purple colorway. Otis and Otto are $25 per set. These are a worthy companion to the Scott Tolleson Uncle Argh Mini Qee that we are currently accepting preorders for here
If you haven't listened to the Big Kev's Geek Stuff show, you can check out past episodes here. We're currently running a 3A Large Martin giveaway on their show (to air tomorrow night) so click here to go to their site and learn how to enter to win!
Danny Chan's "The Dragon": Show Special
Our show special for Toy Street will be the 9-inch vinyl "The Dragon" figure in the OG colorway seen above. Designed by Danny Chan for the clothing label REMIX, this figure will be priced at $12 each just for the duration of Toy Street. That's about one third of the normal price.

In addition to all of the above fun stuff, we will also be hosting NEMO, who's coming in with a micro-series of four 4-inch hand-carved wooden tiki figures.
Will post images and pricing once those are available.

We are also hoping to replenish our stock of Zombie Chuck figures in time for Toy Street. Our Tenacious Exclusive blue Zombie Chucks sold out so fast that we thought we'd get some more.
And we'll be giving out stickers and selling a variety of designer art toys all afternoon, so please do stop by!

Win a 3A WWRP Mr. Frosty from Big Kev's Geek Stuff and Tenacious!

We are providing one of the brand-new ThreeA WWRp Large Martin Mr. Frosty 9-inch figures as a prize for a contest which will begin this weekend on the Sirius XM radio show "Big Kev's Geek Stuff" hosted by my buddies Kev and OG!
Saturday night (April 15th) at midnight (EST) the episode will go live on Sirius 197 XM 202.
If you don't have a Sirius account, you can click here to get a free trial. Or, you can sign up to get the podcast, download past shows on mp3/mp4, or sign up to their RSS feed.
So really, there are a number of ways to listen to the show.

Click thru to the Big Kev's Geek Stuff site for all the details and more info on these two geeks!

Here are more details about the contest from the OG himself:
The Podcast episode will go online Tuesday or so next week.  Because we've made the contest open to both the podcast and the satellite show, we've made it so entries are submitted via our voicemail line with a phrase the caller has to say and then we'll pick a winner out of all the entries.  (Voicemail number = 425-920-6050)
They will have to hear the show for the phrase.  But they can listen to either one to get it so it's really pretty easy to enter as we wanted to keep it open to anyone who wanted to enter. We've set a deadline for entries at 4/27/11 5pm est so that if there is a delay in listening to the podcast you can still have a chance to enter and win.

FriendsWithYou Rainbow City coming to NYC

FriendsWithYou is a design studio working in a variety of industries: they have designed some cool toys, like the kid-safe Wish Come True series of mini figures. They also put up these crazy 40-piece inflatable installations, and I was very excited to read in their newsletter that they are coming to NYC some time this summer! This is an event sponsored by AOL (yeah, that surprised me too- does anyone under the age of 60 use America Online anymore?) and further details are forthcoming. Namely, date and location. I'll post that info here as soon as I get it.

SNEAK PEEK: Ian Ziobrowski's Nuggy Growstation masterpiece

Every once in a while, it seems, some of you customizers go effing nuts. Now is that time for Ian Ziobrowski, who got commissioned someone with deep pockets to do up a 10-inch MadL. Now, you know Ian never skimps on detail or quality, but I really think this time he's completely lost his mind. Because I know for a fact that he's been working on this commission of months. We've been talking about it for a LONG time. Exhibit A, above, is one of Ian's DEA Agent custom 3-onch Dunnys, complete with automatic weapon and canine partner, alongside a 10-inch MadL. That's the "Nuggy Growstation," which he will fully reveal in a couple days.

Exhibit B: It seems that inside this Growstation is a Yeti! Who knows what else is inside this piece? Hmm, well, it's called "the Nuggy Growstation" so let me guess... I get the feeling that it's gonna be epic, on par with TaskOne's recently revealed Qee-thedral piece. Can't wait for the full reveal on this one! Keep watching Ian's Facebook page for more photos and info.

3A Large Martins: Final Product Images

Thanks to attentive and helpful members of the Legion, I now have actual, final images of the incoming ThreeA WWRp Large Martin retailer figures.
On top is Sanddevil (left) and Mr. Frosty (right).
On bottom, from left to right, is Auspublic, Big Red and Iron Panda.
I was very interested to see Auspublic, in particular, because the preliminary shots of that one were provided to me by 3A a LONG time ago. That was during the early stages of production, and the figure in those shots was sort of unfinished, lacking paint details and decals. Auspublic looks RAD.
We are not yet sold out of preorders so click thru to preorder Large Martins from us if you have not yet done so.

Nuggywolf custom Kracka by Ian Ziobrowski

Ian Ziobrowski shares with us his latest custom (which I will be checking out in person tonight at the Kidrobot store in NY): "Nuggywolf", based on the 4-inch KR Kracka platform.
This is what happens when Ian's signature character Nuggs starts hanging out with Team Jacob.
(Come on, you KNOW Team Jacob is off in the woods cultivating their crop half the time. Seriously, think about it.)

NICE details in the claws and teeth, and PERFECT paint, as usual- this is an expertly executed custom and we expect nothing less from Ian. Wait till you see images of the large-scale commission he's been working on for a few months...
Look for Ian to orchestrate an all-out media blitz soon when he launches his new website...
